When to Drop Cold Calling from Your Toolkit

Dear Coach:

I have tried cold calling for a long time now. Well, to be honest, I have tried to make myself make calls. I read your book, got coaching on my script, chose a low dials goal (3 for gosh sakes!), set up the reward system and tracking sheet, but I never actually pick up the phone and dial. I have to get more business in the door. What shall I do?

Coach says:

It's clear you really, really don't want to even try cold calling. That's okay! Hang up your headset. Let it go. It happens! Since you still need to get more business in the door, you've got a couple options.

Option A - Increase your efforts with other marketing tools:
  • Take a look at the networking, advertising, direct mail, etc. you've used so far. Are there marketing tools that seem to work well? Try increasing your efforts and investment there.
  • Are there tools you have not put much effort into yet? Try those, too.
Option B - Hire someone to make calls for you!

One of the marketing tools you have yet to truly test-drive is telemarketing. Before you drop it altogether, consider hiring someone else to do it for you.
